Martha’s Country Bakery is absolute heaven for dessert lovers. What seems like a never-ending counter is stocked with everything from mile-high layer cakes to fruit-packed pies and decadent cheesecakes. And that’s just below eye level. On top, you’ll find outrageously big muffins and pound cakes in every flavor you can think of, tempting you for breakfast too. The choice is a difficult one, especially when a mouthwatering aroma of warm baked goods hits your mind (I’m easily distracted), so here are my favorite picks to help you out.
Berry Napoleon
Berry Napoleon might not receive any awards for good looks, but this is actually one of Martha’s best-selling desserts. Flaky puff pastry sheets hold together thick layers of vanilla custard, which is popping with sweet and tangy berries left right and center. Custard can be a lot to handle, but here it’s decidedly light and refreshing.
Triple chocolate mousse cake
What’s better than a chocolate mousse cake? TRIPLE chocolate mousse cake, of course. Let’s take a moment to admire this masterpiece, which consists of silky smooth layers of dark, milk and white chocolate, all sitting nicely between fudgy chocolate cake before it gets decked with a dark chocolate ganache. It’s intense, layer after layer, bite after bite, though somehow you wish it would never end.
Oreo mousse cake
Oreo lovers rejoice, because your favorite little late-night snack has bigger plans in store for you. Instead of tiny crumbs, Martha’s Country Bakery divides oreos into good-sized chunks and just as generously places them into multiple layers of whipped cream. Gone as quick as your roll of oreos at home.
Oreo cheesecake
If mousse is too light for your liking, enter the land of the rich: Martha’s cheesecakes. Indulgence at its finest, a heavy oreo crumb bottom sets the tone for the richest, most decadent cream cheese, all with countless oreo chunks inside and on its top.
Banana cream pie
A no-brainer for pies and pudding lovers alike, the banana cream pie is the whole package. It comes with a crumbly graham cracker crust, a mountain of vanilla-laced custard (filled with fresh banana slices), a hefty amount of whipped cream and even a Nilla wafer on top. I don’t care how tall this thing is, sharing is out of the question.
Chocolate fudge cake
Not many people know but most of Martha’s desserts can be popped into the oven, a game-changing piece of information for my favorite chocolate fudge cake. That’s how an already-rich chocolate cake transforms into slice of ooey, gooey heaven, covered in piping hot chocolate fudge sauce which is the perfect partner to a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Again, not sharing.
