Bakers & Roasters

Bakers & Roasters - raspberry cheesecake brownie

Bakers & Roasters might be Amsterdam’s busiest brunch destination, no one ever talks about their cakes. I will. Because besides an impressive line-up of New Zealand-style fare, their baked goods are just as noteworthy.

Bakers & Roasters - red velvet cake

Some sweets follow suit with the menu, such as the log-shaped lolly cake with pops of candy (a Kiwi classic), or ginger crunch bars topped with cracked pistachios (another New Zealand spiced favorite). Others are all-American and slightly more familiar. A hit-or-miss kind of dessert in Amsterdam, Bakers & Roasters knows EXACTLY how to do a classic red velvet, with just the right amount of sweetness in its cream cheese frosting.

Bakers & Roasters - Missisippi Mud Cake

The Mississippi mud cake is as decadent and rich as you want it to be, the hummingbird cake is moist and more-ish, and the raspberry cheesecake brownie packs the world’s best desserts into one bite. Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned my personal favorite yet (or maybe I shouldn’t, so I can keep each and every single one to myself!).

Bakers & Roasters - white chocolate caramel macadamia slice

Behold the white chocolate caramel macadamia slice. A buttery biscuit base holds together a mouthful of toppings, which tastes ever so sweet with drops of white chocolate and a thick layer of caramel. That’s your stomach rumbling, not mine.

Next time the wait at Bakers & Roasters is inhumanly long, be smarter than the crowd and order some baked goods to go. There are no rules to this thing; you can have cake for brunch if you want to.
