With 362k followers on Instagram and a pastel-pink exterior providing the perfect backdrop for bloggers, Peggy Porschen has become a social media magnet. Decorations change with the seasons and special celebrations from Christmas to Valentines Day, forever formed of beautiful flowers and made-for-Instagram installations. Desserts are ever-evolving too, highlighting different fruits and spices to suit every month, but you’ll always find British favourites done in the most sophisticated manner. The only question that remains is whether Peggy Porschen delivers on flavour too. Is it worth your time (weekends go hand in hand with long waits) and money (£4.50 for a cupcake is particularly crazy, but then again, what else did you expect in the prestige area of Kensington)? Well, there’s only one way to find out…
Banoffee cupcake
Britain’s beloved pie reimagined, the banoffee cupcake consist of a banana chocolate chip sponge, filled with banana and toffee in the centre, topped with cacao-dusted banana frosting, which is then crowned with a generous chunk of of banana. Order it.
Cookies & Cream cupcake
Cream cheese infused with oreo crumbs, a mini – almost-too-cute-to-eat – oreo on top, all sitting on top of a soft vanilla sponge joined by another oreo on its bottom. You can’t go wrong with this crowd-pleasing combination of cookies and cream.
Glorious Victoria cake
A refined take on the nation’s teatime essential, Peggy Porschen uses a modest amount of raspberry jam and cream inbetween the sponge, before adding another layer of sweetness with vanilla bean buttercream (piped into perfect swirls). The key component, the victoria sponge, is more-ishly moist and not a tad dry, and holds itself together exceptionally well (no crumbled pieces here).
Lemon, raspberry & rose cake
Capturing the essence of summer into one slice, Peggy’s signature sponge is soaked into lemon syrup, layered with rippled raspberry meringue (dotting with rose petal fragments), which is then finished off with edible flowers and a fresh raspberry on top. It balances zesty notes with a hint of sweetness, achieving a refreshing pick-me-up that you won’t want to share.
