Two Little Red Hens

two little red hens - banana cupcake

While downtown is flooded with bakeries and desserts on every corner, the Upper East Side is a sad place for those with a sweet tooth. But Two Little Red Hens singlehandedly puts the area on the map, offering everything from cupcakes and cheesecakes to seasonal pies and cinnamon buns. And doing them all exceptionally well. But if you’re standing in line and find yourself overwhelmed by choice (and the heavenly smell), these are my favorite picks.

two little red hens - ny cheesecake

Cheesecake

Keeping things decidedly traditional, Two Little Red Hens does a classic NY cheesecake without any unnecessary toppings. That’s because it does not need it: sitting on top of a golden graham cracker crust, you’ve got the richest and most dense cream cheese in existence, which is heavy and ultra creamy all at once.

Red velvet cupcake

Despite their enormous size, the cupcakes at Two Little Red Hens are never dry. The red velvet cupcake is especially fluffy, topped with so much cream cheese, every mouthful is a memorable one.

two little red hens - brooklyn blackout cupcake

Brooklyn blackout cupcake

The answer to all life’s questions, the brooklyn blackout cupcake boasts three to-die-for layers of chocolate. A moist chocolate cake is filled with silky chocolate pudding in the center, topped with a deeply rich fudge frosting and finished off with more chocolate crumbs. So what were we saying? I’ve either blacked out or gone to heaven.

two little red hens - banana cupcake

Banana cupcake

Bursting with banana flavor, this cupcake almost tricks you to believe you’re eating something healthy. But a generous swirl of cream cheese on top assures you otherwise – nothing so sweet and satisfying can also be good for you.

two little red hens - apple pie crumble

Apple pie crumb pie

Honoring the season and its extra flavorsome fruits, the apple crumb pie makes a special appearance during fall. It’s practically made to comfort your soul, with thinly sliced apples swimming in sweet apple compote sauce, all while covered in a chunky crumble of cinnamon oatmeal and brown sugar.
