MOOK Pancakes

Mook pancakes Amsterdam - pancakes with chocolate sauce

Before MOOK Pancakes made a name for itself in Amsterdam, owners Sten van den Bedem and Sammy Salimian started a crowd funding campaign to realize their pancake paradise. Now, they count two locations in the city, both consistently buzzing with people and good vibes. Old school hip hop, great service and creative pancakes, it’s easy to see MOOK was a recipe for success (pun unintended).

While Amsterdam might be known for large thin pancakes or small puffy ‘poffertjes’, MOOK serves them American-style. But just like the modern, urban-inspired setting, their pancakes take cues from todays trends, making them with organic wholewheat flour and no added sugar so you don’t have to feel bad about yourself.

Toppings take the lead on the menu, offering endless varieties and interesting combinations. Think greek yogurt, granola and sliced dates; homemade chocolate sauce and melted peanut butter (yes, both together!), or one of the many savory stacks. A mind-blowing bestseller, the Mancake alternates every pancake with slices of cheddar cheese, thick-cut bacon and grilled onions. Oh, and a jug of Canadian maple syrup for some sweetness.

But vegetarians are in for a treat too. The Paid in Full is loaded with avocado, artichokes and baba ganoush, while the Vegalicious brings in the spice (and everything nice) with chilli and grilled peppers. I just love how pancakes are so versatile!

It’s not often everything comes together so well in Amsterdam’s restaurants, but MOOK delivers perfect pancakes, super fast service and ultimately, a stress free Sunday morning.
